Best Purses for Moms with Toddlers in 2020

Every busy mom knows that life no longer fits into that cute little bag we all carried in high school.

The minute our sweet little baby was placed in our arms, our bag needs grew as rapidly as our hearts.

Diapers, wipes, bottles, toys, pacifiers, snacks (for mom and child) all need to fit into that ever-present bag.

In the past, this need was met with diaper bags with images of nursery rhymes in the pattern of the fabric or garishly plastered with primary colors to appeal to our offspring.

Bulky and always slipping from our shoulders, these old bags resembled cheap duffle bags with extra pockets. They were abandoned by moms as soon as their kids were out of diapers.

Today, the diaper bag is history!

Moms have abandoned those sticky icons of motherhood and are instead embracing upscale bags that can accommodate both the mom life and modern lifestyles.

The modern mom purse can easily transition from mommy duty, to the gym, to work without screaming to the world that you just changed your child's diaper for the tenth time that day.

These bags have style – your style.

Look below for seven of my all-time favorite bags and best purses for moms with toddlers.

Top 7 Best Purses for Moms with Toddlers (2020 Updated)

1. Honest Company's Everything Tote

Honest Company's Everything Tote

Features

  • Vegan leather – no toxic foams or PVC
  • Compact
  • Cleanable lining
  • Two interior pockets – both of them insulated to keep bottles and snacks cold!
  • Seven additional easy-reach pockets outside the bag
  • Easy to use detachable crossbody strap

This bag converts from a purse to a cross body which helps mom convert from a day with the baby to a day without.

Drop your wallet in this bag and feel confident that you'll look great at both the preschool or the coffee shop.

My Impression

I love the vegan leather – no cows were harmed in the making of this bag!

It's also easy to clean and great in all kinds of weather. All these pockets are great for all the little objects that fall into our bags while out and about with toddlers

I'm also partial to a crossbody bag. They're convenient and don't slip off my shoulders.

What Could be Better

The size of the bag may be an issue for some. This is a modest-sized bag.

For those who want to get away from the massive diaper bags of old – this isn't a problem, but running out of room for diapers during a long day with the baby could definitely be an issue.

2. Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack

Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack

Features

  • Faux Leatherette material.
  • Quick opening top.
  • Two zippered pockets on the front.
  • Two side pockets for baby's bottles.
  • Matching coin purse, wipes case, and changing pad.
  • The bag is intended to develop a patina over time.
  • Crossbody strap.

This gorgeous convertible backpack is the perfect size for a day out.

This leatherette bag has two conveniently located bottle pockets and can be clipped to your stroller with D rings and special clips (sold separately).

My Impression

I appreciate bags that can convert. The backpack straps hide away neatly to reveal a nice crossbody bag that will look great everywhere you go.

I also love all the coordinating items that come with this bag. The coin purse, wipes case, and changing pad are added value to this cute bag.

What Could be Better

While the boxy design of this bag will hold a lot of baby equipment, it feels... boxy.

Also, it can be difficult to wash an attached changing pad. I prefer a pad that can detach from the bag and be thrown in the washer for easy cleanup.

3. Storksak Emma Leather Shoulder Bag

Storksak Emma Leather Shoulder Bag

Features

  • Beautiful pebble leather.
  • Oval changing mat with looped strap.
  • Insulated bottle pouch with a looped strap that will attach to the stroller. Fluids can stay hot up to four hours.
  • Crossbody shoulder strap.
  • Nine pockets.
  • Cleanable lining

This is the ultimate luxury diaper bag.

This pebble leather bag has nine pockets, a detached bottle pouch and changing pad, crossbody strap, and is stylish as all get out!

If you want to turn heads, this bag will do it. Prepare to tell people where you found this beauty!

My Impression

The leather is buttery soft! It's just distressed enough to look well tooled.

The shoulder straps are just big enough to fit under your arm and the included crossbody strap helps this bag transition from one activity to the next.

What's more, the quality extends to the accessories. The insulated bottle pouch with looped handle is an excellent idea.

What Could be Better

Diaper bags can get heavy and the crossbody strap seems a bit narrow and unpadded for this bag size. This bag may also be a bit big for many moms.

You haul around a heavy toddler; you don't need a heavy bag to go with it. As beautiful and durable as it is, leather does add weight.

4. Ju-Ju-Be Be Right Back Backpack Diaper Bag, Perky Perennials

Ju-Ju-Be Be Right Back Backpack Diaper Bag, Perky Perennials

Features

  • Poly fabric
  • Ergonomic shoulder straps are padded for comfort
  • Ten total pockets
  • The outer fabric is treated with weatherproofing and internal lining antimicrobial
  • Changing pad with memory foam

Cute! Cute! Cute!

This backpack is covered with a red, pink and green floral pattern that pops!

Wide, comfortable shoulder straps and large pocket make this charming, cheerful bag a perfect buy for the artistically whimsical mom.

My Impression

This is a great backpack option for moms with toddlers.

It's comfortable shoulder straps support a bag with a whimsical pattern that is playful but not infantile. The fabric is easy to clean and durable.

This bag would be great in any casual setting. Prepare to be as cute as your offspring sporting this backpack.

What Could be Better

While there are plenty of pockets, none of them are insulated. You'll need to provide your own safety measures for keeping bottles chilled.

Another drawback is that other featured bags are office-ready, while this one is more casual in nature.

5. Ruvalino Large Diaper Tote

Ruvalino Large Diaper Tote

Features

  • This bag is unisex! Dads can use this bag just as easily as moms.
  • The large 11.8*15*6.3 inch size leaves plenty of room for toys.
  • Insulated pockets for bottles or cold food, and a changing pad.
  • Crossbody strap turns this tote into a crossbody messenger style bag
  • Seams are reinforced in the shoulder straps and handle
  • The canvas can be spot cleaned while the lining is washable.

What a great bag for both mom and dad!

Both style and color combination would be comfortable for both men and women to carry.

It's also big enough for overnight trips. Several outfits and changes of diapers can fit into this bag.

My Impression

Dads will love this bag. With its sleek grey and black exterior, handing off the baby bag to dad will be as easy as pie.

Insulated pockets will make sure that the bottle stays fresh and this bag has plenty of capacity.

Hooks for keys and pockets for wallets are also a bonus.

What Could be Better

While this bag opens wide like a satchel, it looks like things could be easily lost in the interior.

The pockets are all one-size-fits-all. Variety in sizes and more pockets that zip would be a good thing here.

6. Skip Hop Chelsea Downtown Chic Diaper Satchel

Skip Hop Chelsea Downtown Chic Diaper Satchel

Features

  • Twelve pockets total.
  • Comfortable crossbody strap.
  • Hangs from stroller well.
  • Gold accents.
  • The fabric is light and sturdy.
  • Metal feet to keep bag cleanly off the ground.
  • Changing pad is cushioned.

This is a charming purse-like bag. A true "mommy purse".

It's one of the best purses for moms with toddlers for daily time. It holds clothes and diapers and all the bottles you need for several hours with your little one.

Not as big as your traditional diaper bag, this bag will also be lighter and easier to wear.

My Impression

This mommy purse is the perfect size. Big enough to hold several diapers, it isn't so large that it overwhelms the carrier.

The faux leather looks soft to the touch but can wipe off easily when sticky fingers get to it.

What Could be Better

This bag looks like could survive some sticky fingers but the bag closure isn't weatherproof.

If a bottle of milk overturns on top of this bag, everything inside will be wet.

7. Lekebaby Large Diaper Bag Tote Satchel Messenger, Arrow Print

Lekebaby Large Diaper Bag Tote Satchel Messenger, Arrow Print

Features

  • The polyester fabric is water-repellant.
  • This bag features 17 pockets!
  • This bag is easy to organize.
  • Convertible from a tote to a messenger bag.
  • Cushioned
  • Clip-on strap to use with strollers.
  • This bag could easily be a piece of your own luggage.

This sweet large-capacity bag has a charming pattern of arrows across the top of the bag.

About the size of a small duffle bag, this bag can be a great accompaniment for a trip to grandma's house.

This is another bag on the list that a dad would feel comfortable carrying around.

My Impression

This is a great bag when looking for something that will outlast the baby years.

The charming design and convenient pockets will be useful for years to come. I like the soft corner flaps that can fold in when not needed and pull out when the bag is stuffed.

Also, there's a perfect little tissue or wipe dispensing pocket on the side of this bag. How cool is that!

Perfect for those times you don't want to reach into your bag with sticky stuff on your hands!

What Could be Better

This bag may get too heavy when full. A large bag is great when it's not being carried!

The shoulder strap does not look like it will last as long as the bag itself.

Tips To Pick The Right Purse for Moms with Toddlers

There is a wide range of bags designed for moms with toddlers.

Totes, backpacks, satchels, and messenger bags are available with any number of pockets, clasps, and closures to keep you and baby's necessities intact and on-hand.

Some bags are designed with modern pockets on the outside of the bag for easy access to that bottle or toy, while others tuck everything away so that your bag looks like a bag you'd take with you to lunch with your boss.

Materials for the modern mom purse vary widely, Leather bags are most durable and always in style, but there are other mom purse options including top of the line fabrics used by recreation and outdoor companies as well as soft cotton, canvas, and easy to clean ploy-blends.

Plan to invest more for a good mom purse? With the excellent quality of workmanship and modern styles, these multipurpose bags should last you for years – far beyond your need to tote a bottle or change a diaper. They become a very good investment.

Final Words

You can see the important features of the best purses for moms with toddlers include bottle storage, room for diapers and changes of clothes, and lots of pockets!

The rest is up to you. Leather or leatherette, cotton canvas, or durable and weather-resistant polyester. Take time to look at different models and sizes of bags before you buy them.

What will it be used for? How long does the bag need to hold you and your child's equipment?

This will tell you what size you need and what the minimum durability of the fabric should be. This mommy bag needs to serve your unique lifestyle.

While many baby items have a short lifespan with your growing child (like that bounce seat that doesn't fit after four months or adorable newborn shoes), the mom purse has longevity.

A good bag can be used for years. I personally still have the green backpack-style diaper bag that I got with my youngest child.

Water bottles have replaced milk bottles, it's more likely to carry a picnic than diapers, and I have no idea what happened to the changing pad...but the bag is one of our favorites.

Durable and with many pockets, it leaves the closet on every trip to the beach and road trip.
